That’s why it was so refreshing when we learned that you all and us in the band have an opportunity to help those devasted by the recent earthquake in Haiti, and now we’re excited to share the details with you.

Starting yesterday, Monday, January 25, if you buy “I Will Be Waiting,” the new album by The Kim Trusty Band, portions of your purchase will be directed to Haitian recovery efforts.  But you have to act quickly, because there is only a 2 week window!  Want more information?  Below is an excerpt of the message from Brian Felsen, the President of CD Baby:

Dear Kim,

The earthquake and its aftermath in Haiti have touched all of our lives. Many in the CD Baby family have already contributed as individuals, but we wanted to do more to help the victims of the horrible earthquake tragedy. While the singer’s previous discs were lovely incarnations of the gentle, contemplative singer-songwriter style, “I Will Be Waiting” shows Trusty taking on the funk, blues and R&B that she can handle effortlessly…So while we have the lovely ‘Do You Still Want Me?,’ we also get the ’70s soul-styled ‘Sister’ and ‘Can’t Let Love,’ as well as the stomping R&B of ‘She’s Got Trouble,’ and the Memphis soul of ‘Integrity,’ all highlights of the 12-song disc.

Before we even mention the treat, we’d regret it if we didn’t insert an enthusiastic thank you to everyone who attended the November 22, 2009 debut performance and party for “I Will be Waiting.”  Joyful, energetic and bursting with love are the only ways to summarize the atmosphere that night, and we’re sure that all those who attended would agree.

If you missed Kim Trusty during her radio appearance on Saturday, November 14 on WRIU (90.3 FM or www.wriu.org), then you missed Kim’s first public presentation of “I Will Be Waiting,” her newest full-length album.  In addition to previewing five songs from the upcoming release, you also missed her talk about when she started writing songs, how she navigates life as a musician, and how she churned out her newest album.

The time has arrived for Rhode Island singer-songwriter Kim Trusty to become the next woman whose name is synonymous with international star-power, and you can help accelerate that fact.

Trusty hails from Media, Pennsylvania as one of eight adopted children. Her foray into songwriting began at a young age and eventually brought her to Boston, Massachusetts to Berklee College of Music in the early 1980’s, where she was known as “the girl with the golden voice.”  Eventually moving to RI, Kim has spent the last three decades refining her remarkable musical skills and crafting her own brand of jazz, R&B and gospel with bluesy, smoky soul. Over the last twenty years, her reputation has moved well beyond the Ocean State as a consummate technician, lyricist and songstress.

There are the inevitable comparisons to women who have set the standard for this genre – Ella Fitzgerald, Anita Baker and Joan Armadtrading, to name just a few. But to say that Trusty is more than the sum of these parts is a vast understatement.  As a music educator in Providence, Trusty’s work includes elementary school classroom instruction, private lessons in the community, and helping to found a performing arts charter school, which is due to open in September of 2010.

Trusty’s other work in the community includes within the Children’s Theatre Company, whose participants are primarily African American and Latino girls, and singing in the newly formed RI Gospel Choral Society.  Her talent, presence and warmth combine to invariably develop and nurture communities and bring audiences to their feet time and time again, whether in the classroom or on the stage.

In September 2005, Kim released her debut album, Sweet Novena, which Providence Journal reporter Rick Massimo called ‘long in the making,’ and ‘a stone cold winner.’ Well Kim is at it again, with a new album to be released in late fall 2009.

On Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 4:30-8:00 PM, Kim and her band will share the fruits of their labor with a CD release party at The Hi Hat, 3 Davol Sq in Providence, RI.  Besides providing the first site where one can acquire this highly anticipated second release, Kim’s intentions are to publicly recognize the recording studio and engineers, her fellow musicians and band members featured on the album, and all the partners who made the project and release possible.  You can be a part of this roll call by showing your support on November 22.
